Worth knowing

  • Hydrangeoides means "like a hydrangea", which seems odd for a plant now in the genus Hydrangea. It was first described in the genus Schizophragma, and the name pointed to its likeness to what was then a separate genus. Wikipedia: Hydrangea hydrangeoides

Protocol 1

DerivedN. C. Deno, 1998

Difficulty Low Rated by us, not by the source.

Start around September 10, 2027 for a May 3 last frost. Too late for spring 2027 — that needed starting on September 9, 2026.

  1. Dry storage

    Duration: 180 daysTemperature: 70°F 21°C

  2. Sow and cover

    Temperature: 70°F 21°C Light: light

about 6 months from start to sowing. Then 28 days to germinate.

100% germination in 28 days.

Schizophragma (Saxifragaceae). S. integrifolium DS 6 m germ. 70L(100% in 4th w), 70D(25% in'4-9 w), 40-70L(100% in 2-4 w), and 40-70D(50% in 6th w). The seeds are very small so that percent germinations are questionable. The somewhat positive effect of light is more evident in the faster rate of germination. Seeds DS 1 y were dead
