This source reports three treatments. All are shown.

Protocol 1

DerivedN. C. Deno, 1993

Difficulty Low Rated by us, not by the source.

  1. Dry storage

    Duration: 180 daysTemperature: 70°F 21°C

  2. Sow outdoors and leave it

Started in July; germination came in April.

about 6 months from start to sowing.

100% germination.

The exact percentage is hard to pin down because the seed is tiny and mixed with debris.

This source doesn't state how long step 2 lasts.

DS seed started in July germ. about 100% in April. It is difficult to determine the exact percent germination because the seed is small and intermixed with debris.

Protocol 2

DerivedN. C. Deno, 1993

Difficulty Low Rated by us, not by the source.

  1. Sow outdoors and leave it

Sown early in November; germination came from mid-March to mid-April.

No stated waiting before sowing.

100% germination.

Outdoors is much the best route. The exact percentage is hard to pin down because the seed is tiny and mixed with debris. Fresh seed germinated in none of the indoor patterns.

This source doesn't state how long step 1 lasts.

Agalinis (Scrophulariaceae). A. setacea germ. best in outdoor treatment using either fresh or DS seed. Fresh seed sown early in November germ. about 100% in mid-March to mid-April. It is difficult to determine the exact percent germination because the seed is small and intermixed with debris. Fresh seed germ. none in 70-40, 40-70D, or 40-70L.

Protocol 3

DerivedN. C. Deno, 1993

Difficulty High Rated by us, not by the source.

Start around September 17, 2027 for a May 3 last frost. Too late for spring 2027 — that needed starting on September 16, 2026.

  1. Dry storage

    Duration: 180 daysTemperature: 70°F 21°C

  2. Cold moist stratification

    Duration: 90 daysTemperature: 40°F 4°C

  3. Warm moist stratification

    Duration: 90 daysTemperature: 70°F 21°C

A further 6% germinated after the shift to 70.

Steps after step 2 run on after germination.

about 6 months from start to step 2. Germination happens during step 2; time not stated, 21 days assumed.

24% germination.

Sown straight at 70 nothing germinated at all.
